Recent Environmental Approaches towards More-than-Human Humanities examines the complex relations between humans and nonhuman beings across literature, culture, and philosophy. It advances the More-than-Human Humanities as a critical orientation that reconsiders how we think, interpret, narrate, and act beyond anthropocentric paradigms. Structured around the Animal, Vegetal, and Blue Turns within the Environmental Humanities, the collection focuses on animals, plants, fungi, and seas, asking how these forms of nonhuman life are represented, imagined and theorised in diverse literary and cultural traditions. Across its three sections, the chapters decenter the human, explore practices of relations and attunement, rethink culture as an ecological practice, and confront the unequal politics of recognition, extinction, and survival. Bringing literary and cultural criticism into conversation with philosophy, Indigenous Studies and relevant scientific debates, the collection demonstrates how interdisciplinary exchange can deepen and complicate understandings of more-than-human relations. With contributions from diverse geographical and cultural contexts, including both the Global North and Global South, the volume offers new frameworks for thinking and narrating the more-than-human world without reducing nonhuman difference, historical violence, and geopolitical inequalities to a universal language of interconnectedness.
