Beskrivning
This is the first introductory textbook to provide an overview of the sport policy process. Explaining key concepts and methods, and using contemporary case studies to explore how the policy process works in practice, the book provides a foundation for understanding the shape of contemporary sport. The first section of the book explains what sport policy is and why it’s important. It examines how policy is made and implemented, and how policy can be analysed, evaluated, and compared. The second section of the book presents a set of detailed, in-depth, real-world, international case studies, demonstrating the application of sport policy in practice. These cases address key themes in contemporary sport business and management, including integrity, human rights, athlete welfare, sportswashing, commercialisation, the media, mega-event hosting, sustainability, and technology. Throughout the book, useful features such as questions, activities, and vignettes encourage the reader to reflect critically on concepts and cases, and to consider how they might apply their knowledge of the sport policy process in practice. This is an essential textbook for any sport policy course, and invaluable reading for broader courses on sport management, sport development sport governance, or public policy. Additional teaching notes are included as an online resource.
