Beskrivning
Coder with Vibes: Not a Vibe Coder is a clear look at how to use the AI coding tools available today. The book does not pretend that coding fundamentals do not matter anymore because an AI model can now write passable code from a one-line prompt. The book argues, chapter after chapter, that programmers can only safely delegate what they already understand, and the depth of that understanding is what determines whether AI makes them better or simply makes them dependent. In short, no matter how advanced technology becomes, good programmers never outsource their ability to think and solve problems. To help programmers develop that ability, the book covers software development fundamentals as well as advanced development techniques using AI. It opens with Linux, which is an absolute foundation. It covers the software engineering discipline every developer should know before letting an AI agent near a codebase. After explaining how large language models work so developers can use them with intention, the book walks through building real, working software end to end by using a repeatable framework. The book closes with the argument that learning to use AI well is the precondition for not being quietly controlled by it.An online companion repository is available on the book’s web page at www.routledge.com. It contains full starter code, solution branches for both walkthrough projects presented in the book, rule-file templates, and every checklist referenced in the text.

Mer om författaren

Rahim Ali (in memoriam, d. December 2025) was a solutions architect who spent twenty years working on open source, most of it as a Linux kernel developer, across the financial and technology industries. He published peer-reviewed research on elliptic-curve cryptography as an undergraduate, built security training environments and cyber ranges for investigative teams, and taught Linux to more students than he ever kept count of. The insistence that Linux fundamentals belong at the front of a book about AI-assisted development, not in an appendix, was his idea before it was anyone else’s. Several of this book’s exercises are his own, reproduced as he wrote them.Dan “Sage” Khan is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie PhD scholar at the University of Granada, researching secure AI frameworks for autonomous systems using blockchain and knowledge graphs. He served in the navy before moving into cybersecurity, AI engineering, and technology policy, and has since worked across all three rather than settling into any one of them. He is the author of Open for Business, on the corporate case for open source, and a co-author of Third-Party Risk Assessment with AI, both with Taylor & Francis. He writes and teaches on the argument this book makes: that the tools are worth using, and that using them well is a skill you have to earn rather than download.Syeda Ayesha Zeeshan is a software engineer based in Karachi. Her contribution to this book was the discipline of making it true: every worked example here is an example that actually runs, checked against the reality of what a working developer’s day looks like when the theory in Part III meets the deadline pressure in Part IV.
