Beskrivning
Using a bidirectional Chinese-English corpus, this book examines how metaphor translation in COVID-19-related opinion articles mediates ideological positioning across cultures and audiences. The volume draws on a corpus of Chinese originals and their English translations from Global Times, and English originals and their Chinese translations from The New York Times and The Economist, focusing on their translation practices and ideological framing. Through synchronic analysis of news headlines and diachronic analyses of opinion articles, including Time Series Analysis and event-driven diachronic analysis, it uncovers how metaphors are strategically employed to reflect institutional agendas and geopolitical contexts. By combining synchronic and diachronic approaches to metaphor translation, the book provides a focused and replicable framework for understanding the intersection of metaphor, translation, and ideology in global health communication. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in translation studies, applied linguistics, discourse analysis, corpus linguistics, language and communication, media studies, and political communication.
