Beskrivning
Natural Occurrence and Biological Activities of Isoquinoline Derivatives delivers a comprehensive, logically organized account of tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) alkaloids, tracing their path from natural occurrence and fundamental chemistry through advanced synthetic methodology to their pharmacological promise as candidates for new drug development.Readers gain a structured, up-to-date foundation in THIQ chemistry, moving step by step from simple THIQ scaffolds to the greater structural complexity of B-THIQs, and concluding in a clear synthesis of structure-activity relationships and pharmacology. Chapters combine classical and cutting-edge synthetic strategies with coverage of biosynthesis, giving researchers practical tools for manipulating and improving isoquinoline scaffolds. Crucially, the book goes beyond summarizing established findings by tackling unresolved challenges head-on, including the need for greener, more cost-effective synthetic routes, predictive models for selective pharmacology, and strategies for translating abundant in vitro data into viable clinical leads. This critical, forward-looking approach helps readers assess the field's current state, pinpoint design shortcomings in existing therapeutics, and identify realistic opportunities for future innovation. This book is written for medicinal and natural product chemists, pharmacologists, biosynthesis researchers, and graduate students working on alkaloid-based drug discovery. It will also serve pharmaceutical scientists and academic or industry R&D teams seeking a single, scaffold-focused reference that connects fundamental THIQ chemistry with real-world therapeutic applications, distinguishing it from broader, less focused surveys of isoquinoline chemistry.Key features / USPsStep-by-step organization, from foundational THIQ chemistry to the complexity of B-THIQs, ending in a clear structure-activity relationship and pharmacology summaryIntegrated coverage of both classical and cutting-edge synthetic methods alongside biosynthesis, in one resourceDirectly addresses unmet needs in the field: greener/cost-effective synthesis, predictive pharmacology models, and in vitro-to-clinical translationOffers a critical, forward-looking evaluation of the field's gaps rather than a straight literature summary
