“As New York and states across the nation rethink what it means to prepare students for success, All Education Is Career Education arrives at exactly the right moment. The lessons embedded within high quality Career and Technical Education—purpose, authenticity, agency, contribution, and real-world application—are not simply CTE practices; they are the foundation of great learning for all students. This book challenges educators and leaders to move beyond outdated assumptions and design systems that better connect learning to the futures our students deserve.”—Dr. Jonah Schenker, District Superintendent and CEO of Ulster BOCES“Mark hits the nail on the head: K-12 education is facing a structural crisis of disengagement, and the traditional 'college-for-all' narrative is long overdue for a reality check. By positioning Career and Technical Education as the blueprint for school design rather than a secondary track, this book bridges the gap between psychological safety and rigorous performance. It’s an indispensable, straight-shooting guide for leaders who want to move past surface-level compliance and build a culture where both students and staff genuinely thrive.”—Dr. Michael Lubelfeld, K-12 education leadership consultant, author, and retired superintendent“Too many leadership books explain what's wrong. This one shows you what to build instead. Mark offers a practical architecture for creating schools where culture, trust, and career readiness reinforce one another. His work bridges the gap between educational philosophy and day-to-day practice, offering actionable strategies that leaders can immediately apply to strengthen their schools. All Education Is Career Education is a valuable contribution to the profession and a book that will challenge leaders to think differently about the systems they create and the culture those systems produce.”—Dr. Christopher Nesmith, Superintendent of Elma School District, WA“I've long argued that a lack of student engagement in school is not a student engagement problem at all but rather a lack of school engagement with the reality of the community where it resides. Dr. Covelle brings this concept to life as he describes the ways that schools can reengage students through rigor, relevance, choice, voice, and authentic problems. I know that our CTE-advocate friends will embrace this work; I just hope it also gets into the hands of every other school leader who needs to learn how to redesign the system for a better experience for all students, not just the ones who end up in great programs adjacent to the broken and antiquated ones.”—Dr. T.J. Vari, author, speaker, and former deputy superintendent“Mark Covelle has the rare ability to admit that he got it wrong. After building his career in the traditional, college-first mindset, this self-proclaimed academic elitist discovered that authentic experiences often prepare learners for life, work, and purpose in ways classrooms alone cannot. This book challenges long-held assumptions with humility, practical leadership, and a compelling vision for the future of education. It is an important read for any educator or leader committed to helping every student discover and demonstrate their value beyond the classroom.”—Peter Hostrawser, Career Internship Educator & Program Coordinator at Naperville Community Unit School District 203, IL, and Co-Host of Disrupt Education Podcast“Dr. Mark Covelle writes with the rare combination of a practitioner’s credibility, a reflective leader’s wisdom, and a human-centered heart. Drawing on experience across teaching, administration, and workforce development, he challenges readers to reexamine long-held assumptions about schooling while offering practical insights grounded in real-world experience. Mark has a gift for illuminating what matters most about education and the people it serves. He skillfully blends the philosophical and the practical, always keeping learners and educators at the center. This book is a valuable resource for new and experienced educators alike as well as those privileged to mentor and develop others in the profession.—Dr. Kathleen McNally, CEO of NOCTI/NBS and Design Partner at The Empowerment Collaborative “School leaders don't need another book about improving the existing system, they need one that challenges them to rethink it. Mark Covelle asks leaders to stop treating disengagement as a student problem and start seeing it as feedback about system design. The lessons drawn from Career and Technical Education aren't about one educational pathway; they're a blueprint for creating schools where every student can find purpose, relevance, and belonging. This book will challenge what you believe about education, and you'll be better for it. —Alli Dahl, Co-Host of Disrupt Education Podcast and secondary science educator“Dr. Mark Covelle’s All Education Is Career Education is one of the most thoughtful leadership books I’ve read in years. His message is clear: culture doesn’t happen by chance, it is intentionally designed. By highlighting what CTE gets right, he offers practical, hopeful guidance for any school that is working to increase engagement, trust, relevance, and student success.”—Dr. Sandra Adams, Area Director of CTE for Allen County and Principal of the Career Academy, IN“I cannot decide whether All Education is Career Education is more timely or more brilliant. Mark Covelle challenges one of education’s most enduring and erroneous assumptions, that academic pathways are inherently superior, and replaces it with a more honest, more inclusive vision of student success. Because he writes from the perspective of a respected academic leader who became one of CTE’s strongest advocates, his argument carries uncommon credibility. Thought-provoking, courageous, and deeply practical, this book challenges outdated assumptions while offering a hopeful vision for schools that honor the talents, aspirations, and futures of every student. This book is both a compelling critique of the college-for-all mindset and an inspiring call to recognize the dignity, purpose, and promise found in every pathway.”—Jason Van Nus, CEO of WIN College & Career Academy“Mark Covelle challenges one of education's most deeply held assumptions and offers a compelling vision for the future. This book reminds us that career readiness isn't separate from education. It is one of education's highest purposes. Every educator and school leader committed to creating hope, opportunity, and meaningful futures for students should read it.”—Sylvester Chisom, Host of Global CTE Podcast and author of The Future of CTE: Creating Hope & Opportunity“Dr. Mark Covelle spent more than a decade building CTE programs as both a principal and a director before writing this book, and that progression shows. All Education Is Career Education is grounded in real experience and written with genuine respect for the educators doing the work. Covelle offers practical insight into how strong programs are built and why the relationships at their center matter as much as the structures around them. CTE leaders, academic leaders, and classroom teachers will all find something worth taking back to their practice. An outstanding resource for leaders who want to understand what great CTE looks like and how to build it.”—Kenneth Midgett, LMP, Cornerstone Trades Consulting Group LLC and former CTE Educator“Education must evolve, but without the right leadership, meaningful change rarely follows. Mark Covelle understands that transformation isn't driven by vision alone. All Education Is Career Education gives school leaders the clarity and practical design moves needed to rethink their leadership, strengthen local practice, and create learning experiences that prepare students for the world they will enter.”—Kristy Volesky, Founder and Principal Consultant at Volesky Consulting and co-author of CTE Reimagined“As educators, we have a responsibility to prepare students not just for the next test or the next grade level, but for life. All Education Is Career Education challenges us to rethink what success truly looks like and reminds us that every classroom experience should help students discover purpose, build confidence, and develop the skills they’ll need beyond school. This book is filled with practical wisdom, powerful stories, and a compelling vision for creating schools where every child can see a future worth pursuing. Whether you’re a teacher, principal, or superintendent, this is a book that will challenge your thinking and inspire your leadership.”—Glenn Robbins, Superintendent of Brigantine Public School District, NJ, author, and speaker“Mark Covelle says what those of us in CTE have long lived: students show up when the work is real and someone trusts them with it. In All Education Is Career Education, he turns that truth into a clear, practical guide for K-12 leaders that is grounded in real school leadership. It is essential reading for education leaders.—Rachael Mann, Founder & CEO of EdFuture “The world needs Career and Technical Education—not as an alternative to great education, but as a model for it. Students thrive when learning is relevant, purposeful, and connected to opportunity, and schools thrive when courageous leaders are willing to rethink what success looks like. In this book, Mark makes a compelling case that the leaders behind exceptional CTE can strengthen education for every learner. It's a timely and inspiring call to action for educators who are shaping the future of students, communities, and our workforce.”—Dusty Moore, CEO of iCEV“Mark Covelle reminds us that ‘Safety is not the destination. It is the ground condition without which no other destination is fully reachable.’ When people feel psychologically safe, agency becomes possible, and agency is the antidote to apathy. With both in place, students and staff are empowered to take risks, design meaningful experiences, and engage deeply with real-world challenges. This combination transforms learning into something authentic, career-connected, and driven by those at the center of it. All Education Is Career Education is an invitation to see learning not only as preparation for life someday, but as meaningful, career-connected experiences that begin right now, where students build confidence, make connections, and shape their own paths.—Dr. Laura Williams, Middle School Principal at North Fayette Valley Community School District, IA, Founder of the Authentic Learning Alliance, and author of The Improvement Game“This book will help school leaders reassess their approach to incorporating career education into practice and embolden them to find new ways to support student growth at a time when this is much needed. Mark Covelle is a respected leader and thoughtful messenger, and he offers pragmatic guidance on how to advance useful change.”—Dr. Shaun M. Dougherty, Professor of Education & Policy in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College, USA
