Aerial Fire Appliances

The flashing lights, loud sirens and speed of a fire engine responding to an emergency incident creates an impressive spectacle anywhere in the world. This is particularly true of large aerial fire appliances, whose ladders and platforms can extend high above the ground to deliver water from an elevated position or rescue people trapped or injured in tall buildings and other structures. From conventional Turntable Ladders to the development of Hydraulic Platforms, and the widespread adoption of Aerial Ladder Platforms, a wide variety of manufacturers and different designs have been developed to deliver these essential firefighting and rescue roles. In this book, John Godwin provides an extensive photographic survey of aerial fire appliances from the past twenty-five years. It features numerous vehicles from across the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe, together with a selection of apparatus from the United States, Canada and destinations much further afield, totalling more than fifty countries. Accompanied by detailed and informative captions, high-quality photographs provide an engaging reference for anyone interested in these distinctive and important fire and rescue vehicles.
