Sound and Space in Film

Antoine Gaudin is Associate Professor at Université Sorbonne Nouvelle. He is the author of L’Espace cinématographique: esthétique et dramaturgie (2015) and has co-edited an issue of the journal Théorème entitled Représentations-limites des corps sexuels dans le cinéma et l’audiovisuel contemporains (2018, with Martin Goutte and Barbara Laborde). He has published many articles on cinematic space and music and sound in film and is editor of the book review section of the academic website nonfiction.fr. He is currently writing a monograph on music videos.David Roche is Professor of Film Studies at Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier, a 2022-27 IUF member and President of SERCIA. His recent publications include the monographs Arrival (2024), Meta in Film and Television Series (2022). His articles have appeared in the journals Adaptation, Horror Studies, Journal of Film and Video, Miranda, Positif, Post-script and TV/Series among others. His current research focuses on the relationship between aesthetics and politics, with particular interest in the work of women directors in the scope of the FEMME ANR project.

This ambitious collection of essays offers significant insights into the crucial, often-overlooked relationships between sound and cinematic space. Bridging theory, aesthetics, and practice, the chapters compellingly explore how audiovisual space articulates with technology, sensoriality, politics, and ecocriticism.
