Ahmed Vall Dine is a prominent Mauritanian journalist, novelist, and author. Since 2008, he has reported for Al Jazeera from regions including Southern Africa, Afghanistan, and North Africa. His work reflects a nuanced understanding of Arab-Western relations. In 2011, he was captured during the Libyan conflict, an experience he recounted in his memoir In Gaddafi’s Clutches, published in English in 2024. Vall Dine’s literary works include Al-Hadaqi (2018), Al-Shaibani (2019), and Danshmand (2023), a fictionalized biography of Imam Al-Ghazali, which was shortlisted for the 2025 International Prize for Arabic Fiction. His 2021 book, The Rock of the Land, explores Afghanistan’s history of resistance.
