Summer of Love

Widely regarded as the most influential album ever made, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was the boldest of all the Beatles’ sonic revolutions. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios across 1966-7, it captured the spirit of the age and announced the Beatles as experimental art-rock pioneers, pushing studio technology, songwriting and pop culture into dazzling new territory. In Summer of Love, the Beatles’ long-term producer George Martin offers an unrivalled track-by-track account of how one of the most loved albums of all time was made. Full of insights and affectionate stories of the band at work, it reveals how songs including ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’, ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’, ‘A Day in the Life’ and ‘All You Need is Love’ evolved from rough demos into the dreamy, psychedelic classics that defined the sound of the 1960s.
