King of Castle Street

Do Carter’s owners really know their cat?  They think he spends all his time sleeping in comfy places, but as soon as they have gone out, Carter springs into action, and patrols his street looking for people to help.  What a good community cat! Carter’s tongue-in-cheek adventures become increasingly larger than life and absurd. They are described in wonderfully solemn and measured rhyme which makes the perfect foil for the joyous and dynamic illustrations.  Rhyme and rhythm combine with a rich vocabulary and playfulness with words, as the pace heats up and Carter’s good deeds are eventually recognised and rewarded – much to the astonishment of his disbelieving owners.  Carter is a Practical Cat of whom Old Possum would have been proud, and his adventures make a delightful read-aloud book to re-read and treasure.
