Dia: Light, Space, Time, Art

The first complete look at the Dia Art Foundation’s extraordinary collection of Land art, featuring all of its site-specific works around the world in one illustrated volume Founded in 1974, Dia Art Foundation is one of the most important contemporary art institutions worldwide. Across nine permanent sites and three changing exhibition spaces, Dia enables visionary, large-scale art projects that are too ambitious, unconventional, or massive for traditional museums to support – from Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake and Walter De Maria’s Lightning Field in remote New Mexico to Louise Bourgeois’ Crouching Spider and Richard Serra’s Torqued Ellipses, both of which can be found at Dia Beacon. Now, for the first time ever, Dia’s collection comes to life in one breathtaking showcase. Dia: Light, Space, Time, Art, presents work spanning all twelve of Dia’s sites, offering readers the rare opportunity to experience the breadth and scale of Dia’s holdings.Lavishly illustrated with 500 images, this extensive volume brings together more than 100 of the most influential artists of the last decade, including Sol Lewitt, Andy Warhol, Dan Flavin, Lucas Samaras, Agnes Martin, Bridget Riley, Bruce Nauman, and Jenny Holzer. Arranged in alphabetical order by artist, the book includes thoughtful descriptions of every featured project, along with a foreword written by Jessica Morgan, Director of Dia Art Foundation, and an introduction by Min Sun Jeon, Assistant Curator.Harkening back to Dia’s name – taken from the Greek word for ‘through’ – Dia: Light, Space, Time, Art is a gateway into the bold, boundary pushing world of contemporary abstraction since the 1960s.
