C. Edmund Bosworth is a Fellow of the British Academy and an Honorary Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 'The Zayn al-Akhbar of Gardizi is a major historical source on the eastern Iranian lands during 650-1041 AD. This work is of particular importance for the histories of Samanid and Ghaznawid rule over those regions, including especially Khusrasan, Afghanistan and Transoxiana. The purely historical section of this major text for Persian studies, known to and used by orientalists for more than a century now, has never before been translated into English.
