“Zita Holbourne is an exceptional award-winning artist, poet, educator, public speaker, and human rights advocate whose commitment to Human Rights and Public Policy is monumental. Her legacy of service is recognised internationally. It has been an honour to include her as a lecturer-presenter in an annual Study Abroad course for University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee interdisciplinary students. Her contributions and expertise are an invaluable resource for faculty and students in the development and evolution of our Movements of Black Life course.”– Professor Portia Cobb“Zita’s life demonstrates how artistic creativity combined with absolute determination can so effectively be deployed to tackle inequality and injustice. Treading a unique path, often in the toughest of political times, Zita inspires commitment in others but also, importantly, confidence that radical change can be secured.”– John McDonnell MP“Zita Holbourne is an extraordinary force for justice whose activism is rooted in courage, creativity and an unwavering commitment to our collective liberation. I have had the privilege of knowing Zita for many years and have experienced first-hand her solidarity and support throughout my own journey as an activist. Zita: A Life of Activism brings together poetry, lived experience, and resistance in a way that is deeply personal and powerfully political. This is not simply the story of an activist; it is a testament to what it means to live your values, to use your voice and your art in the service of justice, and to keep showing up for our communities.”– Lady Phyll Opoku-GyimahOF PREVIOUS WORKThe book [Striving for Equality, Freedom and Justice] is a poetical journey through struggle and resistance, a story of strength, determination and love used to challenge discrimination and injustice, documenting important historical and current struggles from the Haitian Revolution to the Black Lives Matter Movement. This is combined with Zita's personal journey as an activist, mother and artist.
