    Beskrivning

In this deeply personal memoir, Jim Lea of Slade reflects on his life and music through heartfelt vignettes, rare memorabilia and previously untold stories. However, this is a different kind of autobiography. Instead of a linear narrative, Jim Lea - Slade's beloved bassist, pianist, violinist and songwriting powerhouse - opens his heart in short, thematic chapters that craft an intimate portrait across every stage of his life.He talks frankly about his time in the group, his Staffordshire childhood, songwriting, family life, musicianship, his retreat into the world of therapy and beyond.Written with Whatever Happened To Slade? author Daryl Easlea, the book is full of hitherto unseen material from Lea's personal collection. They include letters to his childhood sweetheart (and wife of 53 years), archive family photographs, school exercise books and behind-the-scenes snaps of Slade, alongside a timeline and discography.Lea is the final member of the fabled four-piece to tell his story. It is the book that every Slade fan has been waiting for. So, how does it feel?

    Mer om författaren

Jim Lea joined The 'NBetweens at the age of 16 in 1966 and remained in the group until 1992. By that time they were known, of course, as Slade, and enjoyed six UK No.1 singles, three No.1 albums and made the BFI-reissued film Slade In Flame. As co-writer of all their hits, Lea's passionate work ethic and musicianship mean that Slade remain much-loved, long after the original band split. He lives in Staffordshire with his beloved wife, Louise.Daryl Easlea's books explore his great loves; pop eccentrics, glam, disco and prog rock. After acclaimed biographies of CHIC, Sparks and Peter Gabriel, his 2023 work Whatever Happened To Slade? was a Sunday Times Book of the Year. He is the editor of Record Collector's Rare Record Price Guide and co-founded the podcast Needlepoint. His talks on popular music, 'Fast Forward', have been performed at festivals, the British Library and the V&A.
