The role of governance as a fundamental pillar of sustainability is widely recognized and confirmed by its inclusion in the main ESG issues (environmental social governance). Through the complex role of governance in the context of ESG, research has developed the notion of sustainable corporate governance, i.e., a system based on the integration of shareholder and stakeholder objectives that protects the environment and the broader community. Andrea Cardoni is Associate Professor (tenured as Full Professor) of Business Economics at the Department of Economics at the University of Perugia, Italy. He currently teaches Strategic Analysis and Business Valuation classes at post-graduate level in the Business Administration Course. His current research interests include strategy and sustainability, management control, performance analysis and strategic networking. Evgeniia (Vladimirovna) Kiseleva is a PhD in Business Economics awarded by the University of Perugia, Italy, and she is now a research fellow at the Faculty of Economic Sciences (Corporate Finance Center) at the HSE University, Russia. Her research focuses on sustainable value, sustainable governance, ESG ratings and the connection between ESG scores and financial performance. She taught Sustainability classes at the University of Perugia and has a background of work as a consultant on GRI and IR reports as well as CSR strategy for large Russian companies. During the last years, Evgeniia initiated the launch of the local ESG rating and participated in the implementation of this project.
