Dunes of China

This book provides a comprehensive, updated, and specialized introduction to China’s dunes in an international context, with an emphasis on distinctive Chinese characteristics, including six major sand seas, six major dune fields, six assemblages of scattered dune fields, four collections of scattered dunes, and other scattered dunes in six sites on the Tibetan Plateau, and aeolian processes on gobis. For the dunes in each area of China, the tectonic and geological backgrounds for the dune areas are reviewed. Focuses are paid on the morphology and distribution of the modern dunes, a systematic description of their development environment and the underlying processes that control dune and dune field formation and evolution based on an analysis from the perspective of dune geomorphology. An introduction to the management of dunes is deliberately provided in each region.
