Romans 8 Revisited

As the word "revisited" suggests, this volume offers an array of fresh approaches to various aspects of Romans 8. Stemming from a conference held in 2022, the contributions to the volume are wide-ranging, including the status of the law for those "in Christ" (Valérie Nicolet); the role of law and Spirit in Paul’s adaptation of the ancient idea of human vocation (Simon Dürr); the centrality of Jesus’s participation in human existence (8:3) for Romans 1–11 (Susan G. Eastman); the possible meanings of the phrase, "in the Spirit" (Teresa Morgan); new insights gleaned from epigraphic sources (Markus Öhler), the relationship between baptism in Romans 6 to the injunction of 8:13 (Marcin Kowalski); the integration of the apocalyptic and the philosophical in Paul’s understanding of material Spirit, imminent resurrection, and moral perfection (Matthew Novenson); how best to map Paul’s dense argument and complex network of concepts (Troels Enberg-Pedersen); and specific logic underlying Paul’s understanding of human agency (Jason Valdez).
