Biomedical translation is a complex activity that goes far beyond finding equivalent terms in another language. Communication and safety problems may occur in scenarios such as the following: (i) if translators are unaware of the conceptual, lexical, and pragmatic complexities of medical translation; (ii) if they do not possess advanced translation competence; or (iii) if they are not familiar with standards and workflows of the sector, or with documentation techniques.
