Speculative archeologist and etymologist questions brought together by two minds of their own. Not without criticism their being too speculative or for details about over-interpretating the meanings of place names or discussing the learned Snurre Sturlasson speculations that may not be unfounded from what we know today.
Was the man known as Odin a real person? If so, where did he come from, and what was hes reason to leave his origins? When did this happen? And if so, could he be the same as the English Woden, and what do we know from all this? This questions opens up a vast field of differenting scientific fields, that somehow need to be open mindedly clearified as not to become to institutionalized non-relevant without the necessary overview. This in 2003 when Russia was opened up for western academics, and an opportunity window that will not come easily back again.
This is not a dissertation. This is a speculation in what could have been, and most likely was. As such it has some rather solid claims, but of course has to fail to prove the last verdict.
This would not make it to a critical minded scholar, but it puts an interest for the origin in the Scandinavian countries early history at its focus, and never leaves the grip that it could very well have been. In doing so, it has to also examine the Udin peoples early history as well as the Van kingdom, names that are recognized in another contects in the storie and sagas. There, in this land of mists and myths, the sagas come together
I wish that this effort was more considered in present day debate, an open mind to learn what could have been, indeed, but is now a closed door to history as the author Heyerdahl died before he could return to the excavations in Azov and the projects seems to be forgotten. - 5/5 Lars J
