Mørketiden inntil lyset ble tent da alle Europas land var kristnet og kunne skrive sin egen historie og ta oppdagelsen av Amerika med i samme belysning. Thor Heyerdahl Omslagsbilden till vår bok visar ”Odin fra Lejre” från Roskilde Museum. Det var i september 2009 som museets arkeologer gjorde detta sensationella fynd i ett kulturlager mellan morän och plogland. Det är en liten silveramulett med nielloinläggningar, knappt 2 cm stor, som föreställer den enögde Odin sittande på sin tronstol Lidskjalv tillsammans med sina korpar Hugin och Munin. Om halsen bär han en fyraraders krage med vulster, som påminner om de unika guldkragarna i Historiska Museet i Stockholm. Enligt Snorre Sturlasson skulle Odin ha placerat sin son Skjold. som kung i Lejre. Han blev stamfar till den namnkunniga Skjöldungaätten – den äldsta kungaätten i Danmark enligt Saxo Grammaticus.
