Sweetenings and Babylonish Gabble : Flute Vibrato and the Articulation of Fast Passages in the 18th and 19th centuries

During the 18th and 19th centuries, vibrato as well as the articulation of fast passages was often not indicated in the musical scores, but was left to the players' discretion within prevailing practice. In this doctoral thesis in musical interpretation and performance the playing techniques used for vibrato and fast passages have been tested and evaluated in musical practice, and sounding examples from concerts and recording are included as an intergrated part of the presentation.
