Mer om författaren
KATHARINA VAN CAUTEREN (1981) is Chief of Staff of the Chancellery of The Phoebus Foundation and Executive Director of The Phoebus Foundation Public Benefit Foundation. A passionate art historian and exhibition maker, she has already showcased artists from Flanders and the Low Countries around the world. She took Rubens to India for the first time, introduced the Dutch to Jacob Jordaens, and brought Emile Claus and Rik Wouters to the UK. In the meantime she’s sent Memling, Metsys, Rubens, and Van Dyck globetrotting from Tallinn (Estonia) to Denver and Dallas (USA), and Montreal and Toronto (Canada). In Belgium she’s masterminded exhibitions with such diverse themes as the Antwerp Academy, lace, and portraiture and spotlighted the Flemish masters of the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in a variety of new and insightful ways. She also collaborates with other creatives like fashion designer Walter Van Beirendonck, contemporary artists, production houses, and radio makers. The result is always a total experience, a roller coaster ride through art history. With Politics as Painting Van Cauteren authored the definitive work on the Brussels painter Hendrick De Clerck (1560-1630) and the political ambitions of Archdukes Albert and Isabella. She has published extensively not only on fifteenth-, sixteenth-, and seventeenth-century art but also modern artists such as the members of the Sint-Martens-Latem groups as well as James Ensor, Edgard Tytgat and Rik Wouters. In the Phoebus Focus series she has brought the exotic Mere-Monster of Lake Tagua Tagua to intriguing life, disrobed Hendrick De Clerck’s Suzanna and the Elders layer by layer, linked sixteenth-century Antwerp to seventeenth-century Peru via Diego Quispe Tito’s Holy Family in Nazareth, and sketched a colourful portrait of the life and times of Frances, Lady Dering. For where there are pictures there are stories waiting to be told…
