This book constitutes the proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Research Challenges in Information Sciences, RCIS 2024, which took place in Guimarães, Portugal, during May 2024.

The scope of RCIS is summarized by the thematic areas of information systems and their engineering; user-oriented approaches; data and information management; business process management; domain-specific information systems engineering; data science; information infrastructures, and reflective research and practice.

The 25 full papers, 12 Forum and 5 Doctoral Consortium papers included in these proceedings were carefully reviewed and selected from 100 submissions. They were organized in topical sections as follows:

Part I: Data and information management; conceptual modelling and ontologies; requirements and architecture; business process management; data and process science; security; sustainability; evaluation and experience studies

Part II: Forum papers; doctoral consortium papers.

The goal of this book is to provide a comprehensive, multi-dimensional approach to research and practice in e-government 2.0 implementation. Contributions from an international panel of experts apply a variety of methodological approaches and illustrative case studies to present state-of-the-art analysis and perspectives.

Around the world, governments are employing technological advancements to revolutionize their ways of working, resulting in changing relationships among public organizations and their constituents. Important enablers are new uses of information and knowledge-sharing technologies that emerged with the advent of the Web 2.0 paradigm; initially used in the private arena, such user-friendly, participatory, intuitive and flexible Web 2.0 technologies (e.g., blogs, Wikis, RSS, social networking platforms, folksonomy, podcasting, mashups, virtual worlds, open linked data, etc.) are increasingly disseminated within the professional sphere, regardless of organization type or field of activities.

Current e-government environments have undergone considerable transformations in an attempt to satisfy the incessant demand for more advanced e-service delivery, better access to information and more efficient government management. Looking to the future, the emergence of Web 2.0, the rise of social networks and the wider dissemination of data and information are expected to generate many benefits, such as a better match between public services and citizens'' expectations, greater adoption of online services by citizens and better control of costs and prevention of delays in the implementation of new services. Governments around the world are building frameworks and proposals for e-government 2.0, in the hopes of improving participation, transparency and integration, while speeding up the pace of innovation through collaboration and consultation.

Med mina memoarer syftar jag främst till att förmedla vad jag har lärt under de sex decennier som jag arbetat med samhällsekonomiska frågor - en rapport från en bildningsresa för att använda en pretentiös formulering.

Assar Lindbeck har som få andra svenska forskare gjort avtryck i den ekonomisk-politiska debatten. I sin självbiografi berättar han om uppväxten i Norrbotten under trettiotalet och hur faderns fackliga engagemang väckte hans livslånga intresse för sociala frågor. Så påbörjades en enastående internationell karriär inom nationalekonomisk forskning där Assar Lindbeck kom att bli involverad i många viktiga frågor i svensk ekonomi och politik under andra hälften av 1900-talet. Han deltog bland annat i den kontroversiella löntagarfondsdebatten under sjuttiotalet och var ordförande i den s.k. Lindbeckkommissionen under nittiotalet. I mer än två decennier var han aktiv i kommittén för Sveriges Riksbanks pris i ekonomi till Alfred Nobels minne, allmänt kallat Nobelpriset i ekonomi.

Assar Lindbeck, född 1930, är verksam som professor vid Institutet för internationell ekonomi vid Stockholms universitet och som senior research fellow vid Institutet för näringslivsforskning. Han arbetar också som konstnär och är medlem av Kungliga vetenskapsakademien och Ingenjörsvetenskapsakademien. Vartannat år delar Nationalekonomiska Föreningen ut en medalj ut i hans namn till en yngre lovande ekonom.
