Nästan ett årtionde har passerat sedan den stora energiomställningen. Glesbygden har genom den accelererande avfolkningen blivit en närmast obefolkad råvarudepå. För att upprätthålla lag och ordning i denna industriella ödemark bildades en ny polisstyrka, yrket benämns LÄNSMAN.

En personhistoria över tre gestalter i släkten Kjöllerströms historia. Dessa personers levnad spänner över både Stormaktstiden och Frihetstiden, epoker som i denna bok framträder genom en korprals, en länsmans och en gästgivares ögon. Den förste säkert belagde stamfadern, Mikael Björnsson i Ingarp, Åsenhöga, är först i raden. Han drog ut i stormaktstidens krig flera gånger och stred i både Danmark och Tyskland. Näst i raden kommer Mikael Björnssons son, Ingemar Kjöllerström, den som tar upp släktnamnet. Ingemar Kjöllerström är stridbar länsman i Mo härad och är också gästgivare i Öreryd. Sist i raden kommer Ingemar Kjöllerströms son, Petter Kjöllerström, färgstark gästgivare i Öreryd under nästan 60 år. I boken studeras även släktens tidiga ursprung. I brist på källor kan ursprunget inte säkert beläggas men en trolig hypotes sätts upp.

Händelserna i denna bok har verkligen ägt rum! Namn och platser har dock ändrats, så ingen skall behöva känna sig utpekad. Anser dock, att den form av mobbning boken beskriver, bör både diskuteras och skrivas om. Alltför många människor råkar ut för dylika händelser ännu i dag som är.

Jons äldsta son Håkan, som föräldrarna hade förväntat sig skulle ta över gården, ger sig i stället i väg till Stockholm. En lång vandring för en tonåring, men han finner sig väl tillrätta som skräddarlärling under en tid. Efter ännu en tid i Värmland återvänder han till Stockholm och tjänstgör som kammartjänare hos höga militärer, vilket så småningom leder honom till Jämtland och ett liv som soldat och deltagande i olika krig. Efter krig och fångenskap ”belönas” han för sina insatser med länsmansuppdrag på flera orter. Den längsta tiden i Ragunda, där han så småningom slutar sina dagar. Kriget satte djupa spår i honom och hans temperament orsakade att han många gånger ställdes inför rätta.
