Some experts claim, hybrid cars can revolutionize the car industry, but will they? In order to come to an objective conclusion, the following analysis deals primarily with the technical improvements of hybrid cars and compares key aspects to conventional car design. Structure is one of the first and most crucial decisions to be made. Evaluating different structures is thus an important aspect of an overall analysis. The relatively complex situation of having two engines combined leads to the question of optimized controlling strategies. Responsible for storing the electric energy are the rechargeable batteries. With these aspects in mind, a detailed conclusion on costs and benefitsis possible. This should allow for a differentiate view on hybrid cars.

Das Erscheinen dieses schon vielerorts erwarteten Bandes ist jetzt durch das Eintreffen der letzten Manuskripte ermoglicht worden. Der Band enthalt 70 Ein- zelbeitrage, an denen 53 Autoren mitgearbeitet haben. Bei einem Werke dieses Umfanges ist es unvermeidlich, dass gewisse Ungleichheiten in der Behandlung des Stoffes entstehen und dass sich der Abschluss der Beitrage uber eine gewisse Zeit hinauszog - wenn auch oft aus Grunden "hoherer Gewalt". Verlag und Bandherausgeber sehen jedoch das besondere Anliegen des vor- liegenden Bandes darin, alles vorhandene Material, neues wie altes, zusammen- zutragen, zu sieben und zu einem breiten und festen Fundament fur weitere Literatur-und Experimentalarbeit zusammenzufugen. Es ist naturlich erwunscht, dass dies Fundament soweit in die jungste Gegenwart hineinreicht wie nur an- gangig. Aber es verliert seinen Zweck nicht, wenn es an einigen Stellen etwas hinter diesem Ziel zuruckbleibt.Diese Erklarung bezweckt jedoch nicht, der Kritik vorzugreifen, sondern nur, sie von denjenigen Autoren abzuwenden, welche ihre Beitrage fruhzeitig ein- lieferten und welche gerade deswegen einige der neuesten Ergebnisse auf ihrem Gebiete nicht mehr berucksichtigen konnten.
