In March of 2007, I embarked upon a trip to Louisiana to help rebuild a community devastated from post Hurricane Rita in 2005. During a week long service event hosted by United Way, I joined 150 students from across the country to help in the never ending recovery. During this very humbling experience, I began to realize how important it was for me to be involved in my community locally. Upon return to Southeastern Michigan I felt that Detroit was undergoing an economic downturn that left many communities crying out for help. When reminiscing about my Alternative Spring Break experience, I was empowered to get more students involved in the Metropolitan Detroit area. Talking with United Way for Southeastern Michigan in a meeting, I dreamed about bringing Alternative Spring Break to Detroit to help rebuild local neighborhoods, and community agencies in need. This experience was very historical to United Way because it was the first time they hosted an experience outside of a post hurricane devastated area.A Heart to Give looks inside my thoughts and journals during my experience in 2007, and documents how empowered I felt upon return to Detroit, Michigan. Realizing that we all can make a difference, I am thankful to all the students who gave of their time to help revive the area of southwest Louisiana. I hope that by my example and the example of the many other students apart of the ASB experience, that citizens around the country can notice the importance of being involved in their own communities.

The Guest Editors have focused on methods of diagnosing and evaluating IBD to help guide optimal treatment to maximize clinical outcomes and minimize risks. Authors have provided state-of-the-art updates with practical information/guidelines/algorithms and cutting-edge data for incorporation into practice. The first set of articles deals with endoscopy: its role in diagnosis and monitoring IBD; the growing importance of chromoendoscopy in IBD surveillance exams; assessment of post-operative recurrence; and finally the emerging role of capsule endoscopy. The second section focuses on specific scenarios that IBD physicians encounter frequently: health maintenance in IBD focusing on proper vaccinations; the growing problem of Clostridium difficile in IBD; assessment of pouch problems; optimal evaluation of perianal disease; the state of the art in using thiopurines including use of allopurinol to optimize metabolites and optimizing the use of infliximab by measuring levels and antibodies to infliximab; factors to consider in choosing monotherapy versus combination therapy and communication of risk/benefit to patients; and finally disability assessment in IBD. The third and final section highlights noninvasive methods to evaluate IBD: clinical predictors of aggressive or disabling disease; the evolving role of specific antibodies in diagnosing, subtyping and most recently prognosticating in IBD; stool markers (calproctectin and lactoferrin) for evaluating and monitoring IBD; the growing role of imaging modalities with emphasis on MR enterography and CT enterography; and finally, the genetics of IBD and the potential role of genetic testing in the diagnosis/prognosis and tailoring of therapy.

The purpose of singularity theory is to explore the properties of singular points of functions and mappings.This is a volume on the proceedings of the fourth Japanese-Australian Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities held in Kobe, Japan. It consists of 11 original articles on singularities. Readers will be introduced to some important new notions for characterizations of singularities and several interesting results are delivered. In addition, current approaches to classical topics and state-of-the-art effective computational methods of invariants of singularities are also presented.
