It is divided into four parts covering sustainable water resources modeling, air pollution modeling, Internet of Things (IoT) based applications in environmental systems, and future algorithms and conceptual frameworks in environmental systems. Each of the chapters demonstrate how the models, indicators, and ecological processes could be applied directly in the environmental sub-disciplines. It includes range of concepts and case studies focusing on a holistic management approach at the global level for environmental practitioners.
Features:
Covers computational approaches as applied to problems of air and water pollution domain. Delivers generic methods of modeling with spatio-temporal analyses using soft computation and programming paradigms. Includes theoretical aspects of environmental processes with their complexity and programmable mathematical approaches. Adopts a realistic approach involving formulas, algorithms, and techniques to establish mathematical models/computations. Provides a pathway for real-time implementation of complex modeling problem formulations including case studies. This book is aimed at researchers, professionals and graduate students in Environmental Engineering, Computational Engineering/Computer Science, Modeling/Simulation, Environmental Management, Environmental Modeling and Operations Research.

This book presents an overview of the techniques available today for the removal of fluoride contamination/pollutants/species from water. Also covered are traditionally applied techniques for the removal of fluoride pollutants/species, including oxidation, coagulation-flocculation, and membrane techniques. Recently, progress has been made on the utility of various nanoparticles for the extraction of contaminants from water. Fluoride contamination is affecting water resources quality worldwide as a result of human activities, such as mining and pesticide use. Due to the high risk of fluoride exposure, specific water treatment processes are required to meet more severe water quality standards. A better understanding of currently available processes is necessary to develop economical, efficient, and effective methods for fluoride removal. Fluoride can either be coated, adsorbed using a wide range of both mineral and organic constituents or can be directly rejected by membrane processes, such as reverse osmosis and nanofiltration. Recent developments of submerged hybrid membrane systems, such as membrane bioreactors in wastewater treatment, provide alternative technologies for fluoride treatment.

This book tackles the complexities of water management in India. Using computational tools, it provides comprehensive information on water availability, demand, climate change, integrated management, and governance. A must-read for researchers, policymakers, and water managers.
The book is structured to provide a holistic understanding of water resources in India and the need for an integrated approach to their management. It explores various aspects of water management, including data collection and analysis, water allocation and planning, water quality management, and the intricate interdependencies within the water-energy-food nexus. One of the key focuses of this book is the application of computational approaches in the management of water resources. We explore the use of advanced modeling, simulation, and optimization techniques to facilitate decision making, assess water availability, and predict future scenarios. By employing computational tools, our goal is to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementation, empowering water managers, policymakers, researchers, and other stakeholders to make informed and effective decisions.
Throughout the book, we present case studies highlighting the application of computational approaches in diverse water management scenarios in India. These case studies offer valuable information on real-world challenges and demonstrate the potential of computational techniques to address complex water resources problems. We also explore the importance of stakeholder engagement, participatory approaches, and collaborative governance models, recognizing the importance of inclusive decision-making processes and local knowledge in achieving sustainable water management. The book is expected to serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers, professionals, and policymakers involved in water resource management in India. We aim to contribute to the ongoing efforts to ensure the availability of clean and adequate water resources for present and future generations.
