The book covers historical and theoretical facts surrounding the case of Venezuela and also focuses on the parties and actors that play decisive roles in the conflict. Subjects include the military, public administration, ideology, the opposition, the party landscape along with its crisis and Venezuela''s oil policy. Furthermore the book touches upon international and regional aspects: Venezuela''s diplomatic relations with the EU, the USA, Cuba and Colombia, respectively.

Die Studie zeigt, dass erfolgreiche Transformationen nur gelingen, wenn die beteiligten Akteure in ihrem Zusammenspiel verstanden und gezielt einbezogen werden. Am Beispiel kolumbianischer Guerillabewegungen entwickelt sie das „Bullet-to-Ballot-Modell", das zentrale Bedingungen, Dynamiken und kausale Mechanismen erstmals systematisch erfasst und zugleich legale wie illegale Hindernisse sowie potenzielle Spoiler des Prozesses berücksichtigt. Durch die Verbindung von theoretischer Innovation und empirischer Analyse liefert die Arbeit übertragbare Erkenntnisse für Friedens- und Transformationsprozesse weltweit.
