An array of expert contributors emphasise the critical role of individuals and communities in transitioning toward a circular society, establishing the importance of local actions alongside stakeholder and societal engagement. The critical impact of policymaking and collaborative efforts in fostering circular economic activities is also examined, including comparisons of regional approaches and the development of inclusive strategies to address challenges. Regions, Cities and the Circular Economy further analyses the key drivers and issues when safeguarding natural resources, reducing waste and energy usage, and fostering an ecologically virtuous and socially equitable society.
This engaging book is an essential read for scholars of geography, economics and urban and city planning. It is also an excellent resource for policymakers and those making key organisational decisions at both local and national levels.

The expert contributors illustrate that the value of integrating proximity into the regional development analysis framework is due its plasticity and ability to draw connections between spatial, economic and social dimensions. Possible changes for regional and territorial policies are also an outcome of this integration. These areas are addressed via four main paradigms:
Proximity and regional developmentSpatial innovation processesNetworks and proximity relationsPlace-based strategies and proximity relations.Students, academics, researchers and regional development practitioners with an interest in regional proximity will find this highly original book to be an illuminating read.

Split into four distinctly thematic parts, the Handbook explores the precise definition of proximity relationships and their diversity, including the role they play in social and economic interactions as well as examining the origins and evolution of such relationships. It further presents a detailed overview of the main methods of analysis, highlighting the link between proximity relationships and exchange of information while explaining how exchanges at a distance rely on links of organized proximity, something that plays an increasing role in our societies.
This engaging Handbook will provide an excellent update for scientists and researchers on the recent developments in the analysis of proximity relations as well as students looking for precise and detailed information on the main characteristics of proximity relations, regional and spatial analysis, and the major analytical tools.

The book explores the uneven spatial distribution of territory resources and its implication for the sustainable development of regions and cities. The authors analyze the features of the localization of assets, paying attention to both the manifested factors and the conditions that determine the specificity of the current spatial organization. On the basis of multivariate analysis, gravity models, clustering method, as well as the evaluation of concentration parameters, the authors propose various approaches to systematize territorial units, paying special attention to the peculiarities of their economic structure, resource diffusion barriers, and quality of life parameters. The obtained results indicate the need for a differentiated approach in the choice of guidelines for the transformation of the socio-economic space, allowing the researchers to propose various transformation models for differing regions. Thus, this book presents spatial organization models for different regional economies, highlighting various approaches to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and reducing inequality.
The book seeks to balance the benefits of polarized development with the need to avoid significant interregional disparities. At the same time, the book offers various solutions for differentiating territories, distinguishing different spatial elements, and determining the most appropriate transformation options. The results obtained may be of interest to scholars in regional and spatial science as well as to professionals in the field of territorial development management.
