This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 42nd IFIP WG 6.1 International Conference on Formal Techniques for Distributed Objects, Components, and Systems, FORTE 2022, held in Lucca, Italy, in June 2022, as part of the 17th International Federated Conference on Distributed Computing Techniques, DisCoTec 2022.The 12 regular papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 28 submissions. The 38 full papers and 11 short papers presented together with one abstract of an invited talk and one invited presentation were carefully reviewed and selected from 162 submissions. The  broad topics of interest for FM include: interdisciplinary formal methods; formal methods in practice; tools for formal methods; role of formal methods in software and systems engineering; theoretical foundations.

The 27 full papers and 8 tool demonstrations included in the volume were thoroughly reviewed and selected from 131 submissions.
