Ist die Olympische Idee auch und immer noch eine ‚Erziehungsidee‘? Der neue Band der Reihe ‚Bildung und Sport‘ greift diese Fragestellung auf und gibt einen Einblick in die pädagogischen Zusammenhänge, in denen der Komplex ‚Olympia‘ sowohl historisch als auch theoretisch steht. Die Diskussion um die Veranstaltung olympischer Jugendspiele, die erstmals 2010 in Singapur ausgetragen wurden, hat die Frage nach den Potenzialen und Problemen olympischer Pädagogik neu aufgeworfen.

Der Band enthält deutsch- und englischsprachige Beiträge zu aktuellen Themen der sporthistorischen Forschung, die aus dem Internationalen Kongress für Sportgeschichte 2018 in Münster hervorgegangen sind. Das Themenspektrum reicht von deutschen und europäischen Aspekten der internationalen Sportgeschichtsforschung bis zu Beiträgen von japanischen, koreanischen und chinesischen Autorinnen und Autoren.

In Anlehnung an den vom französischen Kulturwissenschaftler Pierre Nora geprägten Begriff „lieu de mémoire“ wird in diesem multidisziplinären Band ein breites Feld von „Orten der Erinnerung“ im organisierten Skisport untersucht.Schwerpunkte sind traditionsreiche Skiwettbewerbe und Wintersportgebiete, verfallende und vergessene Schanzen („lost places“), Objekte aus dem Besitz der Stars des internationalen Sportbusiness, die in Museen gezeigt, von Liebhabern gesammelt und von Auktionshäusern versteigert werden.
