Bipolar disorder is a serious mental illness that affects children, adolescents, and adults. Also called manic-depressive illness, people with this disorder experience unusually intense mood changes called mood episodes, which can be dangerous. This book describes the risk factors that contribute to bipolar disorder, including genetics and abnormal brain structure and function. It also clearly explains how the illness is diagnosed and treated. An excellent support for teens that suffer from this disease, the book supplies tips for managing life with bipolar disorder, questions to ask a doctor, and organizations to contact for more information.
