We have freedom of speech but we're afraid to speak. Our lives have become subjected to PC tyranny--a constant fear of "offending" someone. Thinking for yourself is not so easy. When encountering an argument to a long held opinion or a wild idea, we use critical thinking to evaluate it, as we were taught to do in school. The problem is that critical thinking is critical.It focuses our thinking on the negative--what doesn't work, what's wrong with the idea--and encourages my-side thinking where we evaluate evidence in a way that favors our beliefs and entraps us into closed-mindedness. Thinking for yourself requires open-mindedness. Open-mindedness is being receptive and, when the issue is important, calls for actively searching for evidence against your beliefs. Thinking is not driven by answers but by questions. Every intellectual field is born out of a cluster of questions to which answers are needed. Had no questions been asked by those who laid the foundation for a field -- for example, Physics or Biology -- the field would never have been developed. We define tasks, express problems and delineate issues with questions. Answers signal an end point and stop thought, except when an answer generates a further question. Timothy Leary said, "to think for yourself you must question authority". To think, you must question. To think through or rethink anything, one must ask questions that stimulate thought. The quality of your questions determines the quality of your thinking. Thinking begins within some content when questions are generated.No questions equals no understanding. To engage in thinking through your content you must stimulate your thinking with questions that lead to further questions. Our own opinions is one authority we should frequently question. John Aiken and his wife Louise, both M.D.'s by profession, have a significant place in the psychedelic chronicles, but their story has been poorly documented. After both sons died by drowning in separate accidents, they retired to New Mexico for spiritual research, with and without psychedelics. Art Kleps, author of The Boo Hoo Bible, has credited their Church Of Awakening as being the very first non-Native American psychedelic church to be registered in the U.S. in 1963, predating both Klep's and Tim Leary's Millbrookers by a couple of years. Aiken's 1966 Explorations in Awareness, draws on a vast array of ancient and modern sources, presenting an esoteric doctrine of self-realization and ultimate transcendence, told in a pure, stripped-down style that displays self-confidence. It is a delight to read because it was a new psychedelic path with vedic-yogic along with Christian and Native American influences, and not a rehashed insight of Hippy "trips." The book includes trip reports, including one from an Indian guru, who does a respect-worthy attempt to interpret the cosmologic-metaphysic experiences of an acid trip into plain English.Aiken's early discussion of LSD vibe is very different from what followed during the Hippy years, and deserves much greater recognition than received. Aiken's approach to enlightenment is rooted in meditating while using psychedelics--peyote, magic mushrooms. This derivative of Aiken's classic Work picks up where Aiken and his wife left off back in the late Sixties--fifty years ago. While Aiken discusses meditation, he doesn't provide specific techniques for doing so and how to get over resistance and other side-tracks. Meditation had just been introduced to Americans by The Beatles in "We All Live in a Yellow Submarine" and other pop songs that captured psychic explorers' imagination. In this derivative, author Beverly Potter (Docpotter) will add specific how-to instructions, with illustrations, on how to meditate effectively, including how to "sit," how to defeat "the Money Mind," and how to handle other challenges psychonauts meet along the path to enlightenment. What Are Terpenes?Terpenes (pronounced tur-peens), or terpenoids, are aromatic metabolites found in the oils of all plants. Terpenes are chemical oils produced by plants that create the unique flavor, scent and effect of herbs, fruit and flowers. In 2014 there were 40 million seniors. By 2050 it projected to be 89 million seniors. There is a coming crisis that will confront every municipality in America. Seniors struggling with adequate money, housing, health care, mobility, quality of life and death.Take finances. 46% of Senior Boomers have less than $10,000 in retirement savings, while 26% have no savings at all! They are relying on social security. In 2-14 there were 63 million recipients, while 91 million seniors on social security is projects for 2035. So while the number of recipients has grown dramatically, the number of workers support recipients has dropped precipitously, fro 42 workers for each recipient in 1945 to2.5 workers in 2035. Equally challenging are the coming crisis for seniors in housing, health care and end-of-life care.With crisis comes opportunity. Every one of the challenges facing seniors—and the communities where they live—is a potential gold mine for those who provide solutions to those challenges.Take housing. Senior Boomers are rewriting the playbook. Seniors want to stay in their home, which is known as “aging in place”, which is to live in one’s home, modifying the home and using products, services and conveniences to enable on to not have to move.
