The most comprehensive support available for success in Analysing VCE History. Power and Resistance: 1788 to 1998 investigates how power was wielded in the emerging Australian society. It explores how ideas of freedom and democracy played (and continue to play) out in Australia, and the implications for an imperfect society as groups struggled against that power for justice and to be recognised as equal parts of the nation.

To commemorate this event The Choir Press in conjunction with Beckit Books is proud to publish a book containing a sample of poetry from each of these four outstanding poets.

Since reading his poems in Nicaragua in 1989, Lewis has had a love of the Hispanic world. People there clearly recognise in him what Lorca identified as duende. His work is influenced by Neruda, Claribel Alegriά and the magical realism of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but at the same time he is steeped in the rural Kent of his youth and the Medway Towns. He explores the ends of all worlds and in between lies the Britain of Blake, MR James, Elgar and Vaughan Williams.

The aim of this book is to introduce young adults – and perhaps older aspiring poets – to a diverse range of modern poetry from both local and international voices, offering inspiration and guidance as they begin their own writing journeys. The idea for the project emerged at last year’s Rainham Poetry Festival, when one poet remarked to an organiser that “most young adults and teenagers rarely encounter contemporary or even modern poetry on the school syllabus.” From this, the suggestion arose to create an anthology that showcases the wide variety of poetic styles that exist today – highlighting that poetry doesn’t have to rhyme or revolve around traditional themes like daffodils. To date, the festival has been made possible through the support of a generous patron, but we are eager to see it continue to grow. For many attendees, these events provide their first meaningful exposure to modern poetry
