US military veteran and historian Dan Tharp''s Africa Lost tells the inside story of some of the greatest special operators you''ve never heard of.Some of the most explosive combat in Special Operations history is almost completely unknown to the Western World. Everyone knows about Navy SEALs and Green Berets but nobody knows about the deep recce, sabotage, and direct action missions conducted by the Rhodesian SAS. The Rhodesian Light Infantry was a killing machine, participating in combat jumps every night during the heat of the Bush War. The Selous Scouts were perhaps the most innovative and daring unconventional warfare unit in history which would pair white soldiers with turncoat black "former" terrorists who would then infiltrate enemy camps.

Explosive, revealing, and intelligent, The Red Circle provides a uniquely personal glimpse into one of the most challenging and secretive military training courses in the world. Now including an excerpt from The Killing School: Inside the World''s Deadliest Sniper ProgramBEFORE HE COULD FORGE A BAND OF ELITE WARRIORS... HE HAD TO BECOME ONE HIMSELF.Brandon Webb''s experiences in the world''s most elite sniper corps are the stuff of legend. From his grueling years of training in Naval Special Operations to his combat tours in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan, The Red Circle provides a rare and riveting look at the inner workings of the U.S. military through the eyes of a covert operations specialist.Yet it is Webb''s distinguished second career as a lead instructor for the shadowy "sniper cell" and Course Manager of the Navy SEAL Sniper Program that trained some of America''s finest and deadliest warriors-including Marcus Luttrell and Chris Kyle-that makes his story so compelling. Luttrell credits Webb''s training with his own survival during the ill-fated 2005 Operation Redwing in Afghanistan. Kyle went on to become the U.S. military''s top marksman, with more than 150 confirmed kills. From a candid chronicle of his student days, going through the sniper course himself, to his hair-raising close calls with Taliban and al Qaeda forces in the northern Afghanistan wilderness, to his vivid account of designing new sniper standards and training some of the most accomplished snipers of the twenty-first century, Webb provides a rare look at the making of the Special Operations warriors who are at the forefront of today''s military.

The New York Times bestselling authors and former Special Operations veterans, Brandon Webb, Jack Murphy, and Peter Nealen details the dangers of ISIS and how America can stop the religious extremist threat at last"It''s too soon to say what steps the United States will take against ISIS. I don''t want to put the cart before the horse," Obama told reporters during a White House news briefing. "We don''t have a strategy yet.""-former President ObamaIf we have been at war with terror for over a decade and still don''t have solid strategies for dealing with radical terrorism, then what have we really been doing the last thirteen years? It''s a good question to ask yourself, and at least the former President was telling the truth when he said we don''t have a strategy for ISIS. As ISIS grows in strength with each successful battle, they will also set up the infrastructure of something resembling a functional state. They will become a self-funded organization making millions of dollars from oil revenue. Left unchecked, it is hard to say how powerful they could become. The dream of a pan-Islamic caliphate is most certainly beyond their reach, however, they could carve out a very large swath of the Middle East for their empire. If ISIS were to capture the first and second most holy sites of the Islamic faith, Mecca and Medina, the entire Middle East may very well implode. The ISIS Solution takes a look at the current geopolitical situation, organizational structure of ISIS, and provides new thinking and strategies for dealing with the Islamic State in the Middle East. Its authors and contributors have over fifty years of combined experience in the intelligence, analyst and Special Operations communities. Leadership and a new philosophical conversation of action is needed to eliminate violent terrorism. This book starts the conversation.

Operation Red Wings provides an in-depth examination of the recovery mission to rescue Marcus Luttrell, filled with never-before-told details and shocking new revelations. Marcus Luttrell''s blockbuster bestseller, Lone Survivor—now a major motion picture—tells the story of Operation Red Wings, in which four U.S. Navy SEALs were inserted into the mountains of eastern Afghanistan with the task of collecting intelligence and finding—or killing—a top al Qaeda commander. The SEALs were ambushed by over one hundred Taliban fighters and a horrific battle ensued. The rescue helicopter carrying eight SEALs was shot down by a reported Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), killing them instantly and erasing any hope for the SEALs already on the ground. Luttrell was the only survivor.Author Peter Nealen (former USMC Force Recon) and the team at SOFREP have an expansive network within the Special Operations community, providing them with access to exclusive interviews, after action reports, military intel and previously untold accounts of the rescue mission. Nealen and his team have uncovered eyewitness reports that put the "official" story into question as to how the initial rescue helicopter was shot down. If true, this potential coverup will have had severe consequences on subsequent helicopter insertion operations and put lives at risk.Complete with a foreword by former Navy SEAL Brandon Webb, this is a must-have companion to the blockbuster book and upcoming film.

The Killing School brings readers inside the U.S. Naval Special Warfare (SEAL) Scout/Sniper Course-the gruelling three-month training program that produces the world''s deadliest snipers. As a SEAL sniper and combat veteran, Brandon Webb was tasked with revamping the U.S. Naval Special Warfare (SEAL) Scout/Sniper School, incorporating the latest advances in technology to create an entirely new course that continues to test even the best warriors. In this revealing new book, Webb takes readers through every aspect of the elite training. Trainees learn to utilize every edge possible to make their shot count - studying crosswinds, barometric pressure, latitude, and even the rotation of the Earth to becoming ballistic experts. In addition to marksmanship, each SEAL''s endurance, stealth, and mental and physical stamina are pushed to the breaking point.Webb also shows how this training plays out in combat, using real-life exploits of the world''s top snipers, including Jason Delgado, who made some of the most remarkable kill shots in the Iraq War; Nicholas Irving, the U.S. Army Ranger credited with thirty-three kills in a single tour in Afghanistan; and Rob Furlong, who during Operation Anaconda delivered the then-longest kill shot in history.During Webb''s sniper school tenure, the course graduated some of the deadliest snipers of this generation, including Marcus Luttrell (Lone Survivor), Adam Brown (Fearless), and Chris Kyle (American Sniper). The Killing School demonstrates how today''s sniper is trained to function as an entire military operation rolled into a single individual-an army of one.

Concordia University at 50: A Collective History celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of the merging of Loyola College and Sir George Williams University in Montreal in August 1974. Distinct from traditional institutional histories, this volume approaches Concordia University's history from the ground up by sharing a plurality of voices from across the university over time. Fifty contributions from faculty, staff, students, and alumni, present stories of a vibrant community and its activities, in a multilayered collection of professional and personal reflections, essays, and oral histories conducted with participants and observers of key events.

Providing insights into the early political pressures that inspired Concordia's formation, the growing pains of its merger among its four faculties, as well as the development of new programs such as dance, theological studies, and études françaises, this book is a testament to an urban university formed by its many constituents and by the multilingual city and the complex province that is its home. Enriched with copious and colourful archival documents, photographs, and public artworks that grace these urban campuses, Concordia University at 50 highlights the great range of activities, causes, innovations, and debates that emerge from educational institutions but extend well beyond the classroom.
