Die Beiträge schließen an die bildungspolitische Forderung nach Lebenslangem Lernen an, fokussieren zugleich aber die erziehungswissenschaftliche Perspektive und fragen danach, wie Lernen in einer Lebenslaufperspektive theoretisch zu fassen und empirisch zu analysieren ist. Neben einer diskursanalytischen Rekonstruktion werden bildungs- und lerntheoretische Konzepte erörtert und in ihrer Bedeutung für die Untersuchung des Lernens im Lebenslauf diskutiert. Darüber hinaus widmen sich drei Beiträge dem Kompetenzkonzept und beleuchten die Kompetenzentwicklung im Lebenslauf.
