Naturaliesamlandets historia berör många delar av vårt förflutna. Fascinationen för naturen var minst lika viktig för synen på människan som för vetenskapen. Ett talande exempel är den Timmska naturaliesamlingen på Engelsbergs bruk, skapad av brukspatron Gabriel Casper Timm och hans son Paul August under 1800-talet.

Livet igenom ägnade de en stor del av sin lediga tid åt att samla växter, insekter, mineraler och annat ur naturens skattkammare. En del kom från hemtrakterna i Västmanland, annat var insamlat runtom i Skandinavien. Far och son stod i tät kontakt med samlare och vetenskapsmän och byggde samtidigt upp ett bibliotek där naturvetenskapliga titlar samsades med böcker om andlighet och tro. Ytterst handlade naturaliesamlandet om ett slags förundran över skapelsen.

Med Naturaliesamlandet i historien placeras den Timmska naturaliesamlingen i ett större sammanhang och får sällskap av andra samlare, tänkare och vetenskapsmän under 1700- och 1800-talen. I boken tecknas bilden av hur samlandets idévärld har utvecklats och fortsätter att påverka oss ända in i vår egen tid.

These three volumes describe and illustrate the trilogy of projects that Craig Hamilton has designed at Old Parkland, Dallas, an office campus developed by Crow Holdings. The architecture and sculpture, together with the spaces between buildings, aim to create a working environment inspired by the humanist ideas of the Renaissance. Hamilton's work there comprises an office building and a bell tower or Campanile on the existing West Campus, together with the entirely new East Campus which occupies a complete city block and comprises of extensive new office accommodation, an orangery restaurant and a small theatre. All three projects are rich in architectural and sculptural symbolism. Hamilton's understanding and deep respect for both the wider western and American classical traditions of architecture have been a source of inspiration for the work that has been undertaken at Old Parkland. The history of collecting natural history specimens touches upon many aspects of our past. The fascination with nature was at least as important for its view of humanity as for science. One telling example is the Timm Natural Collection at Engelsberg Ironworks, created by the ironworks proprietor Gabriel Casper Timm and his son Paul August in the nineteenth century.

Throughout their lives, they devoted much of their leisure time to collec-ting plants, insects, minerals and other treasures of nature. Some came from near their home in Västmanland, Sweden, while others were collected from across Scandinavia. Father and son were in close contact with collectors and scientists, and at the same time built up a library consisting of volumes on natural science along with books on spirituality and faith. Ultimately, collec-ting natural history specimens reflected a kind of wonder about creation.

Collecting Nature places the Timm Natural Collection in a larger context so that the reader encounters other collectors, thinkers, and scientists of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In the book, a picture is created of how the world of ideas in collecting has developed and continues to influence us even today.

Att furstar i alla tider byggt slott, befästningar och hela städer är välkänt. Enskilda kungligheters arkitekturintresse och i vissa fall utövande som arkitekter har däremot varit mindre utforskat.

Nyligen har forskning om Gustav III (1746-1792) visat att han själv var arkitekten bakom flera viktiga byggnadsprojekt.
