What can you do to be a force for racial justice? Many White Christians are eager to fight against racism and for racial justice. But what steps can they take to make good, lasting change? How can they get involved without unintentionally doing more harm than good?In this practical and illuminating guide drawn from more than twenty years of cross-cultural work and learning from some of the greatest leaders of color, pastor and racial justice advocate Daniel Hill provides nine practices rooted in Scripture that will position you to be an active supporter of inclusion, equality, and racial justice. With stories, studies, and examples from his own journey, Hill will show you:How to get free of the impact of White supremacy individually and recognize that it works systemicallyHow to talk about race in an intelligent and respectful wayHow to recognize which strategies are helpful and which are harmfulWhat you can do to make a difference every day, after protests and major events We cannot experience holistic justice without confronting and dismantling White supremacy. But as we follow Jesus--the one who is supreme over all things--into overturning false power systems, we will become better advocates of the liberating and unconditional love that God extends to us all.

Drawing on attachment, developmental trauma, implicit processes and neurobiology, major theorists from Allan Schore to Daniel Stern have argued how and why regulated affect, or emotion, is key to our optimal functioning. This book translates the intricacies of the theory into a cogent clinical synthesis. The book is organized around the four domains of a clinical model:A theory of bodymindA theory of optimal development of affect regulation in secure attachment relationshipsA theory of pathogenesis, in which disordered affect regulation originates in relational trauma and insecure attachment relationshipsA theory of therapeutic actions targeted to repair the affect regulating systems

A handy guide to the major figures and issues in Christian philosophy from Augustine to the present. This volume covers a broad historical sweep and takes into account those non-Christian philosophers that have had a great impact on the Christian tradition. However, it concentrates on the issues that perplex Christian philosophers as they seek to think through their faith in a philosophical way and their philosophical beliefs in the light of their faith. Examples of the topics discussed are the question of whether and how God knows the future, whether we actually know that God exists, and what Athens has to do with Jerusalem. The leaders of the recent revival of Christian analytic philosophy, especially Alvin Plantinga, Nicholas Wolterstorff, William Alston, and Robert Adams are also included. This book will be of interest to those studying Christian philosophy and to Christians seeking to think philosophically about their faith.

Paul Helm is a distinguished philosopher, with particular interests in the philosophy of religion. His work covers some of the most important aspects of the field as it has developed in the last thirty years with particular contributions to metaphysics, religious epistemology, and philosophical theology. In celebration of Helm’s life’s work, Reason in the Service of Faith brings together a range of his essays which reflect these central concerns of his thought.Over thirty of Helm's selected essays and four unpublished articles are gathered into five parts: Metaphilosophical Issues; Action, Change, and Personal Identity; Epistemology; God; and Creation, Providence, and Prayer. The volume is prefaced with a short editorial introduction, and ends with an extensive bibliography of Helm’s published works.Demonstrating the important connection between Helm’s theological and philosophical interests across his body of work, this collection is a remarkable resource for scholars of religion, philosophy, and theology.

This book argues that mental life is organized by and around affect. It proposes a clinical model for understanding how affect influences states of consciousness and self. It illustrates how, from moment to moment, affect determines the world we know, how we are disposed to being in it, and our capacity to function in it.After introducing consciousness and self as features of mind that have posed daunting problems for philosophy, neurology, and psychoanalysis, subsequent chapters propose a model for understanding them at the clinical level. Initial chapters are devoted to the influence of affect on the structure and dynamics of normal waking consciousness and on the self’s capacity to act agentically, to relate intersubjectively, and to develop itself. Final chapters discuss disordered states of consciousness and impeded self‑functioning, due to affect dysregulation and what all this looks like in patients with preoccupied and avoidant attachment patterns.Drawing on psychoanalysis, attachment theory, interpersonal and affective neurobiology, and traumatology, this book offers a fresh perspective on the importance of affect for psychoanalysts and psychodynamic psychotherapists.
