This book reviews the geochemical and petrological characteristics of potassic igneous rock complexes, and investigates the various tectonic settings in which these rocks occur. The authors provide an overview and classification of these rocks and elucidate the geochemical differences between barren and mineralized potassic igneous complexes. High-K rocks are genetically associated with a number of epithermal gold and porphyry copper-gold deposits. In recent years, there has also been growing recognition of an association of such rocks with iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) deposits, intrusion-related gold deposits (IRGDs) and Carlin-type gold deposits. This fifth updated and expanded edition incorporates new data and references from world-class copper and gold deposits worldwide. It also includes the latest publications on the petrogenesis of high-K magmatism and related mineral deposits. Numerous new representative ore photographs of the mineral deposits described are also included in the new edition. As such, the book offers a valuable guide not only for academic petrologists working on alkaline rocks, but also for exploration geologists prospecting for epithermal gold and/or porphyry copper-gold deposits in modern and ancient terrains.

Two events have recently improved the prospects of protecting fish and their environment in Switzerland: the acceptance of a new Federal Water Protection Law in the plebiscite of May 17th 1992, and the new Federal Legislation on Fisheries, in force since January 1st 1994. With this legal framework, the possibilities for protection of nature and landscape have now considerably improved in Switzerland. The most important aims of the Federal Law on Water Protection are to safeguard the natural habitats of the native flora and fauna and water as the habitat of aquatic organisms. This includes not only the preservation or restoration of water quality in lakes and rivers, but also, in rivers used for hydroelectricity, irrigation or as industrial or other water supplies, the maintenance of sufficient water to fulfill the minimal requirements for fish. However, good quality water in sufficient quan tities alone is not enough to guarantee the survival of fish. Intact fish habitats comprise various phYsical structures including plenty of hiding places, hunting grounds, reproduction and nursery areas within suitable distances from each other. This third aspect of conservation and restoration of aquatic habitats is a central point in the new Federal Law on Fisheries. Whereas the former versions of this law were more concerned with fishery regulations, the recent legislation defines new areas of responsibility for the federal and the cantonal governments.

Deutlich wird dies etwa am Anteil der offentlichen Auftrage am Bruttoinlandsprodukt (BIP) der EU, der im Jahr 2017 bei 13,3 % lag. Die hohen Auftragsvolumina im Vergabewesen in Deutschland bedeuten jedoch auch, dass sich fur Wirtschaftsteilnehmer Anreize dafur bieten, Auftrage unter Umgehung des Vergaberechts zu erlangen. Nicht zuletzt aufgrund der erheblichen wirtschaftlichen Schaden fur den Staat besteht ein Interesse daran, die Einhaltung der Wettbewerbsregeln zu sichern und Rechtsverstoe zu sanktionieren. Wie aber konnen diese Ziele bei der Auftragsvergabe erreicht werden?Den offentlichen Auftraggebern steht mit der Vergabesperre ein Instrument zur Verfugung, mit dem Unternehmen, die sich in der Vergangenheit als unzuverlassig erwiesen haben, vom Wettbewerb ausgeschlossen werden konnen. Was genau unter einer solchen Sperre zu verstehen ist, welche Anforderungen das Vergaberecht an sie stellt und welche Probleme bei ihrer Verhangung auftreten konnen, soll die vorliegende naher untersuchen. Sind Unternehmen von einer Sperre betroffen, stellt sich die Frage, ob und auf welche Weise sie Rechtsschutz ersuchen konnen. Die Analyse der einzelnen Anspruchsgrundlagen und ihrer rechtlichen Probleme bildet den Kern dieser Arbeit. Doch nicht nur der Rechtsschutz gegen Vergabesperren kann in der Praxis Probleme aufwerfen. Mitunter kann es sich fur die offentliche Hand als schwierig erweisen, die notwendigen Kenntnisse uber bisherige Rechtsversto e von Unternehmen zu erlangen, um diese zu sperren. Dem begegnet der Gesetzgeber nunmehr mit der Einfuhrung des Wettbewerbsregisters. Welche Auswirkungen Eintragungen in dieses Register auf die Verhangung von Vergabesperren gegen ein Unternehmen haben konnen, soll ebenfalls untersucht werden.

In a competitive market, the price depends on the demand for the product. If there is little demand, the company will have to lower the price it can charge in order to compete with its rivals. Consumers who have choice are more likely to buy the product, which they think, is of good value. Therefore, to stay in the market, companies must seek to produce at minimum costs and to sell the product at a price, which includes a reasonable profit. The function of price competition is to keep prices down to the lowest and to encourage the movement of goods between the Member States . If a good product is sold at an inflated price, consumers might purchase a less appropriate product, which may not satisfy them. Thus price fixing, both horizontal and vertical, is the most obvious infringement of competition law . While horizontal agreements can eliminate inter-brand competition, price fixing between rivals, which also bind distributors (horizontal/vertical agreement) can restrict inter-brand as well as intra-brand competition. Mere vertical agreements, applied by suppliers individually, can cause horizontal effect as well, because it removes competition between distributors. Competition can easily be restricted from a position of dominance. In order to drive smaller companies out of the market or to prevent others from entering, a dominant undertaking can abuse its economic power and charge prices which other firms cannot compete with. The first Common Law country which had to deal with the issue of pricing, were the United States after the introduction of the Sherman Act 1890. In US v. Addyston Pipe and Steel Co. , the Supreme Court held pricing to be illegal per se under sec. 1 of the Sherman Act 1895 . An explanation for this holding can be found in Trenton Potteries : 'The power to fix prices [ ] involves power to control the market and to fix arbitrary and unreasonable prices.'[...]
