Daniel Schwarz betrachtet den Sauerstoffmassenanteil als qualitative Beschreibungsgröße der Ansaugluft eines Dieselmotors. Er zeigt dabei die Vorteile gegenüber der AGR-Rate als Beschreibungsgröße in transienten Phasen des Motors auf. Der Autor stellt physikalische Modellansätze für das Gassystem des Dieselmotors vor, die die Information des gemessenen Sauerstoffmassenanteils nutzen. Dazu gehört ein Mittelwertmodell, welches den Gaszustand im Zylinder bei Verwendung von interner Abgasrückführung durch eine variable Ladungswechselsteuerung bestimmt. Zusätzlich erläutert er ein regelungsorientiertes Modell der Niederdruck-Abgasrückführstrecke und untersucht die Regelung des Sauerstoffmassenanteils in der Ansaugstrecke. Der Autor wendet nichtlineare Regelungsalgorithmen an und vergleicht diese miteinander. Er diskutiert den Einsatz von Beobachtern zur Schätzung von Störgrößen und implementiert und validiert die entwickelten Methoden sowohl in der Simulation als auch an einem Motorprüfstand. Die ermittelten Ergebnisse stellt er gegenüber und bewertet deren Güte.
