This groundbreaking book argues that the New Testament is not the product of a centuries-long process of development. Its history, Trobisch finds, is the history of a book - an all-Greek Christian bible - published as early as the second century AD and intended by its editors to be read as a whole. Trobisch claims that this bible achieved wide circulation and formed the basis of all surviving manuscripts of the New Testament.

The First Edition of the New Testament is a groundbreaking book that argues that the New Testament is not the product of a centuries-long process of development. Its history, David Trobisch contends, is the history of a book--an all Greek Christian bible--published as early as the second century C.E. and intended by its editors to be read as a whole. Trobisch claims that this bible achieved wide circulation and formed the basis of all surviving manuscripts of the New Testament.

The most up-to-date text of the Greek New Testament with an easily accessible critical apparatus. After more than ten years of intensive preparation, a new edition of the UBS Greek New Testament (6th edition) is now available. It offers the most current Greek text, incorporating the textual changes from the volumes of the Editio Critica Maior on the Acts of the Apostles (2017), the Gospel of Mark (2021), and Revelation (2025). As a result, the text differs from that of the 5th edition in well over 100 places. The text is identical to that of the 29th edition of the Novum Testamentum Graece ("e;Nestle-Aland"e;), which is currently in preparation for 2026. The apparatus contains clearly structured entries covering all significant variants of the text. The selection of passages was guided by their relevance for the translation and interpretation of the text. The significance of the so-called Textus Receptus has also been given greater consideration compared to earlier editions. The selection of manuscripts has, on the one hand, been focused on the most important witnesses compared to the 5th edition, and on the other, supplemented by new manuscripts (Papyri 128 to 141). A clearly written introduction (in English) provides an accessible entry point to the edition. Overall, this work is better suited than ever for those beginning exegetical and text-critical work on the New Testament in its original language. It is edited by an international and interdenominational committee, which is also responsible for NA29 and works closely with the Institut fur Neutestamentliche Textforschung: Hugh Houghton, Christos Karakolis, David Parker, Stephen Pisano, Holger Strutwolf, David Trobisch, and Klaus Wachtel.
