Researching English-Medium Higher Education
Diverse Applications and Critical Evaluations of the ROAD-MAPPING Framework
Inbunden, Engelska, 2023

Set against the increasing use of English-medium higher education across the world, this book brings together researchers and practitioners who, despite coming from very different geopolitical areas and pursuing distinct research objectives, coincide in their use of the ROAD-MAPPING conceptual framework. With the use of this framework and its six interrelated dimensions, the nine studies included in this volume explore key topics for English-Medium Education in Multilingual University Settings (EMEMUS) from diverse perspectives. These range from multi-sited, meta-level approaches critically analysing different countries and their realisations of EMEMUS to using ROAD-MAPPING as a methodological tool to analyse all its dimensions or place the lens on a particular aspect. By doing so, the contributions demonstrate the strength of the ROAD-MAPPING framework for investigating and understanding the complex nature of EMEMUS.The volume makes a valuable contribution to the development of EMEMUS research and is thus highly recommended for scholars, policymakers and students interested in one of the most fast-growing (and contested) research areas in applied linguistics today.

Navigating Disciplinary Literacies in English-Medium Higher Education
Insights from Lecturers, Students, and Professional Developers
Inbunden, Engelska, 2025

This collection offers a holistic overview of disciplinary literacies (DLs) in English-medium higher education (EME), with chapters employing a wide range of methodological approaches and data sources to illustrate the importance of a focus on DLs in facilitating positive outcomes for student learning. The volume puts explicit emphasis on DLs within the context of EME, here understood as the skills and resources necessary for developing complex disciplinary knowledge, particularly in light of increased globalization and the internationalization of high-pressure academic and professional environments. The book takes a tripartite perspective, exploring the perspectives of students, lecturers, and teacher educational developers. This approach allows for a better understanding of both lecturers’ and students’ views on DLs, the classroom practices employed in the teaching and learning of DLs, and ways forward for enhancing teacher professional development programs to raise greater awareness of subject-specific needs and in turn, the significant role DLs can play in setting up students for success in and beyond the classroom. This book will be of interest to students and scholars in applied linguistics, TESOL, teacher education, and language education, as well as stakeholders in teacher education development programs.
Del 101 - Bilingual Education & Bilingualism
Conceptualising Integration in CLIL and Multilingual Education
Inbunden, Engelska, 2016

Tillfälligt slut
Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a form of education that combines language and content learning objectives, a shared concern with other models of bilingual education. While CLIL research has often addressed learning outcomes, this volume focuses on how integration can be conceptualised and investigated. Using different theoretical and methodological approaches, ranging from socioconstructivist learning theories to systemic functional linguistics, the book explores three intersecting perspectives on integration concerning curriculum and pedagogic planning, participant perceptions and classroom practices. The ensuing multidimensionality highlights that in the inherent connectedness of content and language, various institutional, pedagogical and personal aspects of integration also need to be considered.
