UTSTÄLLNINGEN ”KLÄDD I DALARNA” berättar om hur sockendräkterna utvecklats och varierat under olika tider, samhällets förändringar och ekonomins inverkan på lust och förmåga att anpassa sig till nya moden och importerade material. Utställningen visar också de traditionella dräkternas variation för alla livets skiften, kyrkliga högtider, vardag och fest – under äldre tid då dräkterna var i dagligt bruk. Liksom den uniformering som skett hos såväl de traditionella dräkterna som de nyskapade – när de idag endast används för speciella tillfällen. Utställningen ger en inblick i hur olika textila tekniker och material använts och införlivats i dräkterna och kan förhoppningsvis också ge inspiration till användning och eget slöjdande idag. “DRESSED IN DALARNA” IS AN EXHIBIT about folk costumes and how they have developed and changed over time. Different factors, such as changes in society, economy, fashion, and imported materials have all had an affect on folk costumes from this area. The exhibit also shows traditional folk costume variations for all aspects of life when they were used daily during earlier periods – from clothing worn during everyday chores and religious holidays to festive occasions. It also discusses the standardization that both traditional and newly created folk costumes went through when their usage became less common. Different textile production techniques and materials that have been introduced into folk costumes are shown in displays here and hopefully give inspiration for how folk costumes can be used today.
