The book highlights the need for a progressive consolidation between technical and soft skills, knowledge of digital tools, and ethical considerations in order to prepare students for the jobs of the future. Adopting a cross-disciplinary perspective, expert contributors argue that to fulfil their civic role, modern universities must develop a new humanism, placing the enhancement of human potential at its core. They draw on their diverse practical experience to show how intellectual growth, creativity, constructive criticism and a wide deployment of technologies can contribute to this goal.
Combining theoretical and empirical insights, this book is an invaluable resource for those working in management education and academic governance, as well as students and scholars of entrepreneurship. It is also a vital read for academic staff and higher education policy makers seeking to equip students for success in an era of uncertainty, dynamicity and turbulence.

This book explores the ongoing transition of China’s economy by examining how its healthcare industry is growing and changing. The coronavirus pandemic has reinforced one of the authors'' key points: in our complex, fragile, and interconnected societies, the production of health is a vital strategic ‘industry’. The case of China is particularly salient, because of its economic and geopolitical significance, and the scale of the healthcare challenge it has faced.
Adopting a multi-level perspective, the authors examine the entrepreneurial role of the Chinese government as it seeks to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic firms. They analyze the strategies employed to improve China’s technology and capacity for innovation, and discuss China’s strategies and policies to ensure knowledge acquisition and creation in the long-term, with particular reference to international scientific collaborations. This book is a must-read for students, researchers, and policymakers interested in the prospects and challenges posed by the growth of the Chinese healthcare industry and its global impact.

This volume describes the most salient changes faced by key Chinese industry sectors as defining components of global and domestic macroeconomic performance. Set within the context of the Global China 2049 initiative, which aims to transform the country into a fully advanced and developed nation, chapters focus specifically on industrial policies that are considered to be one of the main determinants of Chinese growth.
Covering sectors such as healthcare, aerospace, microprocessors and other data driven industries, chapters highlight the pitfalls and anticipated successes of Chinese firms operating in the global competitive market. Importantly, the book fosters debate on how Chinese industries will achieve competitive growth in the post-pandemic era. Ultimately the book discusses the likelihood of China achieving a leading position in terms of processes and innovation and suggests a road to future research on China’s industrial trajectory.

This book uses the concepts of both cultural and psychic distance to analyse managers’ perceptions in international business settings, with a specific focus on European and Chinese ventures in the green technology industry. The key concept of ‘distance’ refers to the variations of cultures, languages, business practices, policies and regulations that distinguish different countries. Offering empirical case studies and theoretical refinements on how scholars can conceptualise and operationalise the psychic distance construct, the authors provide a comprehensive examination of European foreign direct investment (FDI) to China and Chinese FDI to Europe. Contributing to the Marie Curie scheme, Partnering Opportunities between Europe and China in the Renewable Energy and Environmental iNdustries (POREEN), this book is an invaluable read for managers and practitioners.
