To do this effectively, it requires a disease-specific approach as the patients’ needs and clinical context will vary depending on the underlying diagnosis. Diese Festschrift erscheint zu Ehren von Professor Dr. med. Hilmar Burchardi, ehemaliger Leiter der anästhesiologisch oprativen Intensivstationen der Universität Göttingen sowie Gründungsmitglied der European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, deren Vorsitz er von 1998 bis 2000 innehatte. Er ist einer der prägenden Köpfe der deutschen Intensivmedizin, der sich zeitlebens für eine Praxis eingesetzt hat, in der medizinischer Fortschritt und menschliche Zuwendung keine Gegensätze darstellen, sondern sich gegenseitig verpflichten. Die Festschrift vereint zwei zentrale Stränge: Zum einen dokumentiert sie die Beiträge des interdisziplinären Symposiums, das im Frühjahr 2025 zu Ehren von Professor Dr. med. Hilmar Burchardi in Göttingen stattfand. Zum anderen bündelt sie die Schriften der Sektion Ethik der Deutschen Interdisziplinären Vereinigung für Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin (DIVI) aus den Jahren 2012 bis 2025. Prof. Dr. med. Hilmar Burchardi war an vielen dieser Arbeiten maßgeblich beteiligt oder hat sie durch seine Haltung wesentlich mitgeprägt.
