I den svenska översättningen av Kielhofner’s Model of Human Occupation (femte amerikanska upplagan, den andra i svensk översättning), presenteras teori, forskning och tillämpning av modellen i boken. Modellen förklarar hur aktivitet motiveras, inordnas i vardagens livsmönster, utförs och påverkas av aktuell miljökontext samt vad som händer när människan ställs inför svårigheter som sjukdom, skador och annat som leder till problem med att utföra aktiviteter.
