Current transformations towards the Information Society are affecting p- fessional and private lives, individual and societal interactions, economic and educational directions and technological developments. Or, to put it the other way around: New technologies and in particular information and communication technologies offer a multitude of opportunities for transformations in the m- tioned (and many more) fields. To emphasize this close connection the EU used th the term ‘Information Society Technology’ (IST) in their 6 Framework and put 2 forth the "IST Vision: anywhere anytime natural access to IST services for all" .

Die These, dass das Internet vor allem als neuer Kultur- und Bildungsraum gesehen werden kann, hat sich durchgesetzt. Anhand der Schlusselbegriffe 'Alltagskulturen', 'Inter- und Transkulturalitat', 'personale Identitat', 'Digital Game Studies' und 'Virtuelle Konsumwelten' wird diese These uberpruft und weiter entwickelt.

Zum erstenmal in der Bundesrepublik laden Informatikerinnen Frauen und Manner aus den verschiedensten Fachdisziplinen ein, wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen und Erfahrungen zum Thema "Frauen und Computer" vorzustellen und auf einer Fachtagung gemeinsam zu diskutieren. Die Themen umfassen Frauenerwerbsarbeit, den Einfluss der Computertechnik auf Frauenarbeitsplatze in Produktion und Verwaltung und die Gefahren dieser Entwicklung. Behandelt wird auch die Frage, wie Arbeitsplatze und Hard- und Software im Interesse erwerbstatiger Frauen gestaltet werden konnen. Im Themenschwerpunkt "Schulische und berufliche Weiterbildung" werden neue Wege in der Technikausbildung diskutiert. In einem weiteren Schwerpunkt geht es um Fachfrauen im Bereich der Datenverarbeitung, ihre Entwicklungsmoglichkeiten in einer Mannerdomane und um den internationalen Vergleich. Traditionelle kulturelle Leitbilder, nach denen Technik und Weiblichkeit sich ausschliessen, werden der Kritik unterzogen. Erste Uberlegungen gibt es zu der Frage, ob und wie sich der Ausschluss weiblicher Lebensrealitat in Theorie und Entwicklung der Informatik niederschlagt.Insbesondere auf dem Gebiet des Software-Engineering entwickeln Informatikerinnen heute ihre Kritik und suchen nach eigenen Wegen. Insgesamt gibt der Tagungsband einen breiten Uberblick uber die gegenwartige Forschung, Diskussion und praktische Erfahrung auf dem Gebiet Frauen und Computer.

The university as we have known it is undergoing massive transformations. This observation is commonly made these days during discussions of the future of our academic system(s). While it certainly holds true for the "Western" strong­ holds of our globe, it likewise applies to a wide variety of marginalized contexts and locations beyond. For historical reasons, universities and academic systems differ considerably from place to place. However, the transformative process under analysis here is driven by major economic and technological develop­ ments generally subsumed under the label 'globalization'. And although, the contemporary world deliberately puts the stress on change and 'the new', the traditional academic systems are challenged by the great juggernaut of global­ ized transformation on the level of the particular and the local. In our view, the ongonig changes are neither reason for celebration nor de­ spair. What motivated us to put this volume together was our curiosity about these processes of change, as well as our awareness of their significance, our partisanship for particular directions that they mayor may not take and, last but not least, our insight into their complexities and heterogeneous, even contradic­ tory, outcomes.
