But there is an increasing awareness of his sophisticated engagements with his contemporaries and of his philosophy''s rich potential for debates with modern and contemporary thinkers. Nietzsche''s Engagements with Kant and the Kantian Legacy explores a significant field for such engagements, Kant and Kantianism. Bringing together an international team of established Nietzsche-scholars who have done extensive work in Kant, contributors include both senior scholars and young, upcoming researchers from a broad range of countries and traditions. Working from the basis that Nietzsche is better understood as thinking ''with and against'' Kant and the Kantian legacy, they examine Nietzsche''s explicit and implicit treatments of Kant, Kantians, and Kantian concepts, as well as the philosophical issues that they raise for both Nietzschean and Kantian philosophy. Divided into three volumes, the focus is on specific areas and texts of Kant''s philosophy: Nietzsche, Kant and the Problem of Metaphysics; Nietzsche and Kantian Ethics; Nietzsche and Kant on Aesthetics and Anthropology . Each volume draws extensively on the flourishing recent literature from both analytic and continental traditions in English, German and other languages. By responding to scholarly interest in the critical relations between Nietzsche and Kant, this series of volumes presents the first systematic study of the pairing of two major European thinkers from the modern period.

Conflict and Contest in Nietzsche’s Philosophy redresses this situation, arguing for the importance of these issues throughout Nietzsche’s work.The volume has three key lines of inquiry: Nietzsche’s ontology of conflict; Nietzsche’s conception of the agon; and Nietzsche’s warrior-philosophy. Under these three umbrellas is a collection of insightful and provocative essays considering, among other topics, Nietzsche’s understanding of resistance; his engagement with classical thinkers alongside his contemporaries, including Jacob Burckhardt; his views on language, metaphor and aphorism; and war, revolt and terror. The question of antagonism, struggle and dissensus, and their place, limits and value for democracy, has divided deliberative from agonistic theories in recent years and remains the main source of the impasse between them. This open access book seeks to break this impasse by going back to their sources in Kant (for deliberative theories) and Nietzsche (for agonisms) and reframing them as philosophers of conflict. For both philosophers, conflict is part of the ‘deep structure’ of reality at all levels, and their reflections on its constitutive, constructive and destructive potentials raise fundamental questions that democratic theories can ill afford to ignore.Through a series of text-based comparative studies of Kant’s and Nietzsche’s philosophies of conflict, Herman Siemens addresses the central question of the book: What does it take to think of conflict, real opposition or contradiction as an intrinsic dimension of reality? The Nietzsche Dictionary elucidates in detail some 300 terms from Nietzsche''s vocabulary. The first volume presents 67 of them. The account of each term includes the number of occurrences, main uses, synonyms, the various meanings, components of meanings and semantically relevant contexts (with examples), and the historical linguistic and philosophical localisation of Nietzsche''s use of the word, as well as a discussion of Nietzsche research and the reception of Nietzsche.

The complete dictionary will comprise 4 volumes. New articles will be pre-published in the database Nietzsche Online.

International contributors include well-known names (Conway, Ansell-Pearson, Hatab, Taureck, Patton, Connolly, Villa, van Tongeren) and young emerging scholars from various disciplines.

Emphasizing Nietzsche's genealogy of European culture and his reflections upon the constitution of Europe in the broadest sense, its essays examine peoples and nations, values and arts, knowledge and religion. Nietzsche's apprehensions about the crises of nihilism and decadence and their implications for Europe's (and humankind’s) future are investigated in this context. Concerning the crossing of notional frontiers, contributors examine Nietzsche’s hoped-for dismantling of Europe’s state borders, the overcoming of national prejudices and rivalries, and the propagation of a revitalizing "supra-European" perspective on the continent, its culture(s) and future. They also illuminate lines of syntheses, notably the syncretism of the ancient Greeks and its possible example for the European culture to-be. Finally certain of Europe's current problems are considered via the critical apparatus furnished by Nietzsche's philosophy and the diagnostic tools it provides.
