The field of superconductivity has tremendous potential for growth and further development in industrial applications. The subject continues to occupy physicists, chemists, and engineers interested in both the phenomena itself and possible financially viable industrial devices utilizing the physical concepts. For the past five years, within the publications of the American Physical Society, for example, 40%-60% of all articles submitted to major journals in the area of Solid State Physics have been on the subject of superconductivity, including the newer, extremely important subfield of high temperature superconductivity (high Tc).The present volume is the first handbook to address this field. It covers both "classic" superconductivity-related topics and high Tc. Numerous properties, including thermal, electrical, magnetic, mechanical, phase diagrams, and spectroscopic crystallographic structures are presented for many types of superconductors. Critical fields, critical currents, coherence lengths, penetration depths, and transition temperatures are tabulated.- First handbook on Superconductivity- Coherence lengths and depths are tabulated- Crystallographic structures of over 100 superconductor types- Main results of several theories are submitted- Phase diagrams for synthesizing new superconductors are included

The continuously expanding field of electron spin resonance (ESR) has broadened our understanding of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and related sciences over the last fifty years. In the first volume Professors Poole and Farach provided one of the first definitive reference tools for this field. These handbooks bring together wide- ranging data from diverse disciplines within ESR and integrate the data into a comprehesive and definitive resource. In this second volume of the Handbook of Electron Spin Resonance, the authors present a comprehensive source subfields of ESR not covered in the first volume. Topics covered in this volume include: * Sensitivity * Field Swept versus Frequency Swept Spectra * Resonators * Line Shapes * Electron Spin Echo Envelope Modulation * Hamiltonian types and symmetries, including a comprehensive tabulation of transition ion data * ESR Imaging * High Magnetic Fields and High Frequencies Written by recognized experts in the field, and intended for students and researchers, the Handbook of Electron Spin Resonance will prove to be an invaluable reference for all those involved in ESR research.

This second edition of the well-known work stresses important aspects of magnetic resonance theory that are of increasing importance to the research worker. Presents mathematical background and the basic prototype two-spin 1/2-1/2 Hamiltonian treatment as a building block to the more specialized subjects developed: higher spins and anistropies, applications to atomic spectra, crystal field theory, Mossbauer resonance, types of double resonance, and dynamic polarization. Specialized extensions are then discussed at length, with the advantage of showing clearly their relationships to the main body of magnetic resonance theory: ENDOR, ELDOR, polarization, spin labels, saturation transfer and fourier transform methods, and NMR imaging. Much of this material is treated by means of the uniform formalism based on the direct product matrix expansion technique.

Magnetic Resonance of Phase Transitions shows how the effects of phase transitions are manifested in the magnetic resonance data. The book discusses the basic concepts of structural phase and magnetic resonance; various types of magnetic resonances and their underlying principles; and the radiofrequency methods of nuclear magnetic resonance. The text also describes quadrupole methods; the microwave technique of electron spin resonance; and the Mössbauer effect. Phase transitions in various systems such as fluids, liquid crystals, and crystals, including paramagnets and ferroelectrics, are also considered. Physicists and scientists working in energetic materials laboratories will find the book invaluable.

Superconductivity covers the nature of the phenomenon of superconductivity. The book discusses the fundamental principles of superconductivity; the essential features of the superconducting state-the phenomena of zero resistance and perfect diamagnetism; and the properties of the various classes of superconductors, including the organics, the buckministerfullerenes, and the precursors to the cuprates. The text also describes superconductivity from the viewpoint of thermodynamics and provides expressions for the free energy; the Ginzburg-Landau and BCS theories; and the structures of the high temperature superconductors. The band theory; type II superconductivity and magnetic properties; and the intermediate and mixed states are also considered. The book further tackles critical state models; various types of tunneling and the Josephson effect; and other transport properties. The text concludes by looking into spectroscopic properties. Physicists and astronomers will find the book invaluable.

Market: Physicists, chemists, biochemists, and biologists. Here's the first book to gather the vast range of experimental data in electron spin resonance (ESR) into a single volume. Concise yet comprehensive, it offers an easy-to-use collection of up-to-date experimental data, methods, and theory. The Handbook includes key contributions from leading scientists and provides over 200 tables and figures. Although specific ESR subfields are covered in numerous books and journals, the Handbook of Electron Spin Resonance is the only comprehensive reference to present extensive tabulation of data and experimental results. The Handbook also provides introductions to theoretical backgrounds, methods, and instrumentation.
